Including your address in your income tax return
On the ‘Personal’ page of the Airtax income tax return, you will be asked to provide some information about your current home and postal addresses. In this Help Centre article, we’ll talk about this questionnaire and explain how to complete it in case you get stuck.
Why do you need my address?
This section captures some basic information about your home and postal addresses and is included as part of your income tax return lodgement each financial year.
What does this mean for you?
Each field in this section is required in order to proceed with your lodgement, so it is important you ensure each field is completed before you try to move to the next stage of your income tax return.
How do you complete this section on Airtax?
When you start your Income Tax Return on Airtax your return will be prefilled with ATO data for the financial year, and this may include your address information. All you will need to do is check to make sure the information is accurate, and make any changes as necessary.
If your postal address is not the same as your home address, (e.g. you have a P.O Box address), ensure you select ‘No’ to the question “Is your postal address the same as your home address?”
NOTE: It is important that you enter valid addresses, in the correct format. If you’re unsure how to correctly format your address, simply start typing your street address and you will see some auto-complete suggestions appear. Otherwise, you can input your address on Google and copy the result of that search across to your tax return.
You will also be prompted to indicate if your postal address has changed since you filed your last tax return, so the ATO knows to update this information on your tax profile.
