Income Tax Returns |
When you start a tax return on Airtax, the first section you will come across will ask for your Personal Details. In this Help Centre article, we’ll explain why each field is important, and some important things to keep in mind as you complete this section.
Why is this section needed?
The Personal Details section captures some basic information about you and is included as part of your income tax return lodgement each financial year. This information is required by the ATO and should match your details as they exist on their system (this is called your tax profile). You can check your personal information according to the ATO by logging into myGov.
What does this mean for you?
Each field in this section is required in order to proceed with your lodgement, so it is important you ensure each field is completed before you try to move to the next stage of your income tax return.
How you complete on Airtax?
When you start your Income Tax Return on Airtax your return will be prefilled with ATO data for the financial year, and this will include your personal information. All you will need to do is check to make sure the information is accurate, and make any changes as necessary. If you do make any changes to the prefilled data, it is important to make sure that these changes reflect the information currently on your tax profile with the ATO.
NOTE: Submitting a tax return through Airtax with personal information that does not exactly match ATO records will result in processing delays.
You will also be prompted to indicate if your name has changed since you filed your last tax return.
What you’ve learned:
The Personal Details section of the tax return is the first you will complete on Airtax, however, it should be prefilled for you when you start your return. Check for accuracy of this information, as it is critical that it all matches ATO records.
